Diagnosing and Treating Auditory Challenges and Auditory Processing Disorder in School-Age Children
Children who have the diagnosis of Auditory Processing Disorder or listening challenges require intervention. The best interventionist to work with these children is the Speech-Language Pathologist. Many therapists have attended conferences on the diagnosis and theories behind Auditory Processing Disorder but still question how to construct and present the therapeutic interventions necessary post -diagnosis. This presentation will offer a way to evaluate and treat children diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder and Listening Challenges. Discussion will be focused on the roles of the Speech-Language Pathologist in the evaluation of these disorders and deficits, interpretation of the testing results, developing treatment plans and the components of intervention. In addition to recommendations for working with the individual there will be recommendations for accommodations for the classroom and suggestions for working with the child at home.
